Cancer can do many things to a person...most of all it can make you question your personal strength and faith....however when you are preparing for battle...one must go in fighting.
That stands true to no matter what your situation in life may be...all of us struggle with our own personal demons not just on a daily basis...but an hourly basis, some of us more than others.
I am fortunate enough to only have little things "little obstacles" on my life's journey come into play every now and then.
How so you may ask? On July 28th I was diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma "Thyroid Cancer". I had surgery to remove my Thyroid on August 3rd and by September 16th of 2005 I was knocking on Mayo's doors for my 3rd opinon due to my "gut feeling" that something was not quite right....my gut feeling was correct...cancer was back and now I had multiple cancerous nodules within my neck cavity. We had to re-build my system to be able to undergo another major surgery and well I also had a life to live and I didn't want to miss deer season...so surgery was scheduled for November 28th of 2005. I underwent a radical neck dissectomy and they classified this type of surgery to be comparable to open heart and brain surgery. What? During surgery Dr. Thompson removed 19 tumors within my neck cavity and around my voice box, throat...so on as well as fifty-five lympth nodes.
It has been a ride and my journey has opened up many new doors within my life...I was a strong person before, however I am even stronger now. I just had my check-up at Mayo and all though I am not yet in remission, I am holding my own and staying stable with no new cancer cell growth, my blood "thyroid and calcium" counts look great...and I couldn't be happier.
So that is just one of my life's obstacles.
What challenges do you face in your life?
Do you face them head on or let them brew in the pit of your stomach?
A close friend asked me early on, actually the day after I was diagnosed to show him my muscles...so I showed him...and he told me..."See you are strong....you are stronger then cancer and you will kick its ass!"
